Research Analyst

 

The Institute for Justice seeks a Research Analyst to join its Strategic Research program. The Research Analyst will conduct high-quality original research to inform public policy debates on the Institute’s core issues: property rights, economic liberty, free speech and school choice. This position offers an entrepreneurial researcher the opportunity to combine research with IJ’s cutting-edge constitutional litigation to make a real-world impact securing individual liberty.

Applicants should have expertise in statistics and social science methodology, as well as experience conceptualizing, implementing and writing significant original research, experience with large datasets, and proficiency with research software. Strong editing skills and the ability to write clearly for a general audience are essential. Minimum qualifications include 2-4 years experience and a bachelor’s degree in the social sciences. Advanced degree in social sciences or significant commensurate professional experience preferred.

Texas Legislative Fellow 

 

The Institute for Justice’s Texas Office, in Austin, seeks a Legislative Fellow to assist with and advance our legislative goals for the upcoming 2015 session.  This is a full-time limited-term position that will run from November 2014 until the end of May 2015. The Legislative Fellow will assist Institute attorneys with an ambitious, fast-paced legislative agenda.  Tasks will include tracking multiple bills, meeting and working with legislative allies, drafting legislation, keeping abreast of up-to-the-minute developments during the 2015 session, and reporting to Institute attorneys on a concise and timely basis.
 
Applicants should be enthusiastic about working on legislation that expands individual liberty in IJ’s “Four Pillars” of property rights, economic liberty, free speech, and school choice. 
 
Applicants should have some combination of the following: experience working in the Texas Legislature, experience working on the legislative team of a non-profit organization, experience working for a registered lobbyist, or other relevant experience with day-to-day legislative activities.  Must be comfortable meeting with legislators and staff, coordinating coalition activities, public speaking, and being a contributing member of an intense and focused legislative team.  This will include working nights and weekends where necessary.  Minimum qualifications include 1-3 years experience and a bachelor’s degree in political science or related field.  Law degree and commensurate professional experience preferred.

Constitutional Law Fellowships 

 

The Institute for Justice seeks candidates for its Constitutional Law Fellowship program. Fellowships are unpaid positions open to recent law school graduates interested in gaining hands-on litigation experience by working closely with IJ attorneys on cutting-edge constitutional cases. Successful candidates demonstrate a strong background in constitutional law, an interest in IJ’s mission and a commitment to the principles of free markets, limited government, and individual rights.

Institute for Justice Maffucci Fellowships

 
The Institute for Justice is seeking paid interns for its Maffucci Fellowship program.  Fellows work closely with IJ’s activism and coalitions team, and assist with exciting research projects, help track controversies and legislation across the country, and provide valuable administrative support to staff on a variety of tasks.  Fellows gain unique experience on the front lines of the fight for liberty. 

The duration of the Maffucci Fellowship is flexible, with a minimum commitment of three months. Undergraduates should attempt to obtain academic credit for their work.  Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.  Law students should apply to our clerkship program (see below). 


Candidates should possess exceptional writing skills, be attentive to detail, and have a strong commitment to individual freedom as well as an interest in property rights, free speech issues, school choice, and economic liberty.

Strategic Research Internship 

 

The Institute for Justice seeks a paid research intern for its strategic research program at the Arlington, Va. headquarters. The internship will include data collection and analysis for research projects. The ideal candidate will have facility in mining online databases and data sources, the ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets, and persistence and good judgment in soliciting information and data from state and non-profit agencies.
