Systems Coordinator

 

The Institute for Justice, the national law firm for liberty, is seeking a full time Systems Coordinator.

An ideal candidate will possess problem solving, oral and written communication skills, the ability to work independently & collaboratively with other staff members and specific technical knowledge of the systems supported. For consideration, candidates are required to possess a Bachelor’s degree and 2 – 3 years of IT related experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Help desk support in installing, maintaining, and upgrading client systems (desktops, laptops, and handheld devices)
  • Assist users with troubleshooting any problems that arise in the use of office PCs, printers, internal network resources, or the internet
  • Maintain logs of all work done in support of systems
  • Support of telephone equipment issues as directed
  • Work with vendors/outsourced service & support providers as directed
  • Develop training technical manuals
  • Assist in running training workshops for users
  • Basic troubleshooting and support of video conferencing systems
  • Other duties as assigned

Proofreader

 

The Institute for Justice—the national law firm for liberty—is looking for a talented and motivated professional to work as a paid, part-time proofreader and cite-checker of both legal and non-legal documents.  The ideal candidate will possess a meticulous attention to detail, excellent command of the English language, intimate familiarity with legal citations and the Bluebook, interest in constitutional law, and an entrepreneurial spirit.  Legal training, experience copyediting and exposure to libertarian ideas are definite plusses.
 
Terms of employment and compensation are negotiable, though the position does not qualify for any benefits.  It is contemplated that the professional will work from home as an independent contractor with maximum flexibility.  Promising candidates will be asked to complete a sample proofreading and cite-checking assignment.

Constitutional Law Fellowships 

 

The Institute for Justice seeks candidates for its Constitutional Law Fellowship program. Fellowships are unpaid positions open to recent law school graduates interested in gaining hands-on litigation experience by working closely with IJ attorneys on cutting-edge constitutional cases. Successful candidates demonstrate a strong background in constitutional law, an interest in IJ’s mission and a commitment to the principles of free markets, limited government, and individual rights.

Institute for Justice Maffucci Fellowships

 
The Institute for Justice is seeking paid interns for its Maffucci Fellowship program.  Fellows work closely with IJ’s activism and coalitions team, and assist with exciting research projects, help track controversies and legislation across the country, and provide valuable administrative support to staff on a variety of tasks.  Fellows gain unique experience on the front lines of the fight for liberty. 

The duration of the Maffucci Fellowship is flexible, with a minimum commitment of three months. Undergraduates should attempt to obtain academic credit for their work.  Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.  Law students should apply to our clerkship program (see below). 


Candidates should possess exceptional writing skills, be attentive to detail, and have a strong commitment to individual freedom as well as an interest in property rights, free speech issues, school choice, and economic liberty.

Applicants are required to submit a cover letter, resume, writing sample, and contact information for two personal references.  The writing sample must be between 400-600 words.  Use Liberty in Action blog posts as a guide. Please send the materials in a single PDF to:

Strategic Research Internship 

 

The Institute for Justice seeks a paid research intern for its strategic research program at the Arlington, Va. headquarters. The internship will include data collection and analysis for research projects. The ideal candidate will have facility in mining online databases and data sources, the ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets, and persistence and good judgment in soliciting information and data from state and non-profit agencies.

The Institute for Justice is the nation’s leading libertarian public interest law firm, litigating to defend property rights, economic liberty, First Amendment freedoms and school choice. Its strategic research program is a unique initiative that combines high-quality social science and policy research with IJ’s cutting-edge litigation.

Outreach and Administration Intern – Clinic on Entrepreneurship

 

The IJ Clinic on Entrepreneurship is a nonprofit that engages University of Chicago law students in providing low-income entrepreneurs with the pro bono legal support they need to pursue their dreams. In addition, the IJ Clinic provides free workshops and networking events for entrepreneurs and advocates for economic liberty and inner-city entrepreneurship as vital forces that can transform individuals and their communities. The IJ Clinic Outreach and Administration Intern will gain professional experience with entrepreneurship, law, community organizing, event planning, and the administrative duties that keep an office running, as well as an opportunity to work directly with attorneys and entrepreneurs. 



Intern Duties:

  • Work with the clinic’s staff to brainstorm and implement new methods to reach our target audience and spread awareness of the clinic’s mission and services
  • Search for and assemble resources for Chicago entrepreneurs
  • Expand the clinic’s social media network, post articles and events relevant to Chicago entrepreneurs
  • Attend community events to reach new audiences of entrepreneurs
  • Assist with market research to determine how to best serve entrepreneurs
  • Research local policies related to small business and help collect data to support our advocacy campaigns
  • Compile metrics for development reports and make recommendations for measuring impact
  • Assist with client selection process
  • Provide administrative support for clinic events and outreach

Activism Intern – Clinic on Entrepreneurship

Intern Duties:

  • Play a key role in organizing and effectuating advocacy campaigns
    • Identify and communicate with key stakeholders in the community
    • Work with staff to develop print and electronic materials to spread awareness about advocacy efforts
    • Help plan outreach events and spokesperson trainings
    • Identify media outlets to help publicize our efforts, e.g. blogs and local publications
    • Conduct research, compile surveys, and create materials to support our advocacy efforts
    • Attend coalition meetings and advocacy events
  • Provide administrative support for advocacy campaigns
    • Manage task list and timeline for the clinic’s legislative projects
    • Compile spreadsheets and mailing lists
    • Prepare and send mass mailings
