Constitutional Litigator/Staff Attorney

Tired of working on cases you don’t believe in? Longing to do something meaningful with your law degree?  The Institute for Justice, the nation’s leading libertarian public interest law firm, is seeking a staff attorney to join its merry band of litigators in its Arlington, Va. headquarters.  IJ litigates cutting-edge constitutional cases in the areas of private property rights, economic liberty, school choice, and free speech in both state and federal courts nationwide.  We’ve litigated three cases before the U.S. Supreme Court including the Kelo eminent domain case and have petitioned for cert. on three others this term, one of which has already been accepted.  We seek attorneys with 0-4 years of litigation experience, excellent communication skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, solid academic records, a passion for freedom, and a good sense of humor.  We offer a competitive salary, full health, dental, and life insurance benefits, and a pension plan as well as a collegial, positive work environment and the opportunity to gain litigation experience with meaningful responsibility in cases that will have immediate real-world impact.  If you love liberty and the Constitution, consider what you could accomplish at IJ.

Institute for Justice Maffucci Fellowships

The Institute for Justice is seeking fellows for its internship program.  Two positions are available:  one focuses exclusively on the Castle Coalition and eminent domain, and the other works on all four of IJ's pillars.  The fellowship includes assisting with exciting research projects, helping track situations and legislation across the country, and providing valuable administrative support to staff on a variety of tasks. Interns gain inimitable experience on the front lines of the fight for liberty.

The Maffucci Fellowship is full-time and the duration is flexible, from 3 to 6 months. Fellows receive a monthly stipend, and undergraduates are encouraged to attempt to obtain academic credit for their work.  Law students should apply to our clerkship program (see below).

Candidates should possess exceptional writing skills, be attentive to detail, and have a strong commitment to individual freedom as well as a familiarity with eminent domain abuse, free speech issues, school choice and economic liberty.

Please send a cover letter (detailing your interest in the fellowship that you prefer), resume, and writing sample to the attention of:
